This is a static publication with no reader accounts, so the cookie situation is unusually boring. Two cookies remember your own choices, and two only exist if you allow analytics or advertising.

Strictly necessary items are stored in your browser’s local storage rather than sent to a server. They hold a preference, not an identity, and cannot be used to track you across sites.
2. Your preferences
Change these whenever you like. Turning a category off stops the scripts from loading on your next page view and clears what we can clear from here.
3. Blocking cookies yourself
Every major browser can block or delete cookies, and Safari, Firefox, and Brave block third-party tracking cookies by default. Blocking everything won’t break this site; you’ll just lose your theme choice and see the cookie banner again on each visit.
4. Third parties
Only two third parties can set cookies here, and only with your consent: Google Analytics and Google AdSense. Their use of that data is governed by Google’s own policies, which we don’t control. Embedded study figures and videos, where they appear, are loaded with privacy-preserving settings wherever the provider offers them.
5. Changes
If we add a cookie, it gets added to the table above and the version date changes. We won’t add a category without asking you again.
